Viva Magenta has been announced as the 2023 color of the year! What does that mean for knitters? Expect to see sweater and accessory patterns shown in magenta this year. Look for yarn companies to highlight their magenta yarns or even hand dye special blends to match this vibrant color. If an oversized pullover sweater in magenta isn't your thing, then you can still be trendy by using magenta as an accent color in color blocking, stripes, or stranded knitting.
Pair Viva Magenta with soft, pale pinks and use varying shades of pink in between to create a monochromatic, tonal look. Viva Magenta looks striking with greys, sage green and any type of muted green to give an eye-catching, "opposites attract" combination.
Search for Magenta yarns, like this search at Jimmy Beans Wool. Click on the link for Jimmy Beans, then in the search bar, just enter Magenta, and you'll quickly find solids, tonals, and variegated yarns.
Knit Picks has a brand new limited-edition yarn called Static (below center) which is precision dyed, repeating pattern of stripes and speckles. Static is excellent for socks and the Eastland color shown below lets you play with Magenta mixed in with other colors. Other magenta options include (left) Comfy in color Fairy Tale and (right) Wool of the Andes in Magic.
Have fun incorporating Viva Magenta in your next knitting project! And if you find a yarn in a fabulous magenta color, leave a comment so we can check it out!
