When I think of knitted art, I think of the intricate stitches and harmonious colors that go into designing a truly unique and impressive garment or accessory with fiber. It all starts with an idea, skills, and yarn. But this time, I want to introduce you to a different type of knitted art that instead of yarn, uses glass.
Award-winning artist Canadian-American artist Carol Milne, creates knitted glass by knitting a piece with wax instead of wool, protecting the wax with a heat-tolerant material, then melting the wax out which leaves a mold that she can place in a kiln where lead crystal is heated, then cooled.
Her knitted glass artworks can be seen in art galleries and museums around the world. You can also purchase one of her artworks through her online store.
If you are interested how she actually creates these, Carol also sells e-books and virtual classes through her online shop for those interested in the process.
Find out more about Carol, shop her artwork, or read about her work in more detail from publications.
The gently shaded colors, mesmerizing stitches, and shape of each sculpture is something I could look at every day. Thank you Carol for bringing such beauty to the world of knitting.
